LG hints at V30’s camera prowess in media invite

LG Electronics has sent out its official media invitation for the unveiling of its fall flagship phone, the V30. The South Korean tech giant will show off the phablet at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin on August 31, at the sidelines of the IFA tradeshow. The invitation is shaped as an 18:9 ratio rectangle like previous teasers, suggesting the smartphone will adopt the screen size of the company’s G6. It also features a silver lens in the shape of the camera icon with…

Should LG ditch the secondary display in the V30?

On August 31, LG has announced that it’s going to announce something new. It’s technically possible the company could just surprise everyone and announce a new tablet or something, but the safest bet is it’s going to be a new smartphone. A new flagship phone, too, and under the V-series banner. Rumor has it that it’s going to be called the V30, which wouldn’t be too surprising considering the V20’s launch last year. The rumor mill has revealed some of…

LG will fix shielding on future 5K monitors to prevent router disruption

Earlier this week, we reported on the LG 5K UltraFine monitor’s problems with content when a router was placed near the display. LG has confirmed the issue and recommends that users who have their displays too close to routers move either the display or the router to create more space between the two products. If the router is too close to the monitor, the display will blank, flicker, or fail to display at all. In some cases, this has even…

Prices for Google and LG’s Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches leak

We’ve seen quite a few details about Google and LG’s Watch Sport and Watch Style leak out lately, but the pricing of the two watches had remained a mystery. Until today, that is. The LG Watch Sport will launch with a price of $349, says a source speaking to Android Police. The smaller and less feature-packed LG Watch Style is expected to cost $249. As a reminder, the LG Watch Sport is rumored to include a 1.38-inch 480×480 display, 768MB…

LG’S FIXING ITS 5K MONITOR TO WORK NEAR WI-FI ROUTERS

LG has ended its silence on the router proximity problems for its 5K Mac monitor that rolled out in late 2016. The company recently told Recode that 5K monitors manufactured after February 2017 would add extra shielding to prevent them from freaking out near Wi-Fi routers. As for existing monitors, it appears those can also be retrofitted against signal interference, as well. The report didn’t mention how existing monitor owners can have their displays repaired if necessary. LG’s 5K monitor…

LG Watch Sport specs leak ahead of this week’s unveiling

While MWC 2017 is still a good three weeks away, Google and friends will be trying to avoid the flood of announcements for its their wearable push. The big Android Wear 2.0 is expected to be launched this week and with it are two “reference” smartwatches from LG. But even before that happens, we’re getting a glimpse of one of those, particularly the LG Watch Sport, preparing us for what to expect this Wednesday. The LG Watch Sport has been…

There are still more people using defective Note7s than LG’s best phone

Never bet against Samsung. Despite successfully recalling 93 percent of Galaxy Note7 phones in the U.S., there are still more active Note7’s being used than its closest competitors, including the very capable LG V20. The data comes from the research firm Apteligent (via AndroidPolice), and shows the on-its-deathbed Note7 still sitting pretty above the LG V20, HTC Bolt and OnePlus 3T. The chart is interesting, considering how Note7 users have had months to return and exchange their phones as part…

LG’s levitating speaker can descend and charge itself when battery is low

We’re living in the future. Although they’re not yet available to everyone, we do have jetpacks, self-driving cars and spaceships. So it’s our right to demand gadgets that are levitating in the air for no apparent reason, right? It’s a wireless, 360-degree omnidirectional speaker that flies above its station, while producing some deep tones thanks to a built-in subwoofer. While it looks quite unassuming, the speaker has a few cool tricks up its sleeve. When its 10-hour battery is low,…

LG is better off ditching the modular dream for now

The LG G5, announced during MWC in February earlier this year, is arguably one of the more interesting flagships we’ve seen offered in 2016. LG’s G series of smartphones has been gaining traction over the past couple of years, and the G5 certainly turned heads when LG announced its partially modular design, which allows users to add modules to improve certain aspects of the phone. It sounded good in theory, but realistically hasn’t garnered much attention after the fact. Only…

LG REVEALS ITS V20 SMARTPHONE, A 5.7-INCH PHABLET FOR ‘STORYTELLERS’

Can a serious YouTuber reasonably use a mere phone to shoot all her videos? That’s what LG promises as consumers weigh options in a crowded marketplace for super-sized phablets. LG finally went public with the specs and features of its 5.7-inch V20 super-phone on Wednesday, and much like last year’s V10, the new model is geared toward “storytellers”—folks who depend on their phones to capture audio, still images and video. Sure, the V20 is the first phone to ship with…
